Hi, I read some posts in this forum about turning on an AT&T iPhone 4S the first time with a foreign SIM will automatically unlock the phone, is this true or anyone was able to confirm that?

My contract is up and I am thinking of upgrading to 4S (without knowing when iPhone 5 will be out) but I would like to keep the unlock function. Just wonder how AT&T users were able to get their iPhone 4S unlocked as it doesn't seem to allow AT&T users to purchase unlocked version of iPhone 4S when renewing contract.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you very much :)

I doubt this, otherwise you are getting a carrier subsidized iPhone which is unlocked.

Who pays the difference?

long short that doesn't work. new Gevey sim and others are do out soon.. best option buy a factory unlocked then you are unlocked and no contract. also if you purchase under contract there is no way around ETF other then stealing.
