Activating iPhone 5 (when it comes in)?

Hey guys, I gifted my brother an iPhone 5 have a tracking number with it and he can't wait for it (neither can I)! Thing is, he's moving from an iPhone 4 to the iPhone 5, so how would I activate the iPhone 5 since there are two different SIM cards?

I read earlier on here somewhere you simply turn the device on and the older iPhone/device gets deactivated. Is this true?

There will be instructions on how to do so. You'd have to go to whichever carrier's site you got it for, fill in a few things then connect to iTunes.
