Activating unlocked iPhone

Greetings all,

The iPhone 6 will be the first time I've gotten a new iPhone outside of also switching carriers (when they set it up for me).

If I buy an unlocked 6 on the same carrier I am on (Sprint) is it just a matter of deactivating my current 5S, then putting the SIM into the 6?
