Did my first 70.3 yesterday and thought I would use my year old S7 to test the new Triathlon Activity and to see how long it would record for in Low Power Mode. I was wearing a Garmin Fenix 6 as my main watch so I didn’t care if I got anything from the Apple watch or not.
Well, I was happy with my time of 6hr 49m and impressed that the Watch captured the whole activity. I started it a few minutes early as I didn’t want to get distracted starting two watches on the line. I didnt touch the watch again until I had finished letting the New Triathlon Activity do it’s stuff and was equally impressed with that
it accurately captured the first Swim to Cycle Transition
It wasnt so good at the cycle to Run Transition as it started the Run early whilst I was running with the bike back to my bike racking location. I guess that’s always going to be a challenge and not really that much of an issue as you can always trim that after you upload to Strava.
Verdict. Low power mode extends the useability of the Apple Watch for endurance activities to 7 hours and beyond and the Triathlon Activity enables multisport tracking, something that simply wasn’t possible before.
