Activity Monitor Question

Hello! Today I finally got my first iMac. And I just have one question about activity monitor .

When I open Activity Monitor and go Window > CPU Usage I get this little window.

It looks like it is showing me how much of each core is being used but it is a quad core and there is 8 little rectangles. Can someone please explain it to me

I have the 4 Ghz Quad Core i7 late 2015.

All help is appreciated.

Hyperthreading. The 4 physical cores are treated as 8.
