Hi there, I'm having problems getting into my activity monitor.. I click on it (double click) and it seems like it's going to open, but then pops back to finder and doesn't open anything.

Has anyone experienced this?

Thanks for your help!

Have you disabled the "Monaco" font?

EDIT: ignore that, I read "terminal" instead of Activity Monitor. Doh!

No, it doesn't even change up top.. just blinks like it's going to change, but goes back to finder.

I haven't tried with another account, but I'm the only account on this computer.

Create a second account for testing purposes, then. You can always delete it when you no longer need it. This can be done in System Preferences.

Also, try deleting Activity Monitor's preference file and caches, if it has them. If these become corrupt, it can cause the behavior you describe.

Ok, I created another account, logged into that, and it did the same thing.. it looked like it was going to open, but shut down..

Going to try some of the other suggestions now

Ok, I checked the console, and it gives me this:

2007-06-19 07:52:32.493 Activity Monitor[523] The tool is not setuid root - please repair the privileges

when I try to open activity monitor

Aha - that explains your problem. You need to repair permissions. Go into Disk Utility, select your startup disk, and click the Repair Disk Permissions button.

Ok then, Disk Utility might fix it, if not let us know - there's a command line fix we can post instead.
