Hi,

This may be a strange question but I live in a country where pretty much everything is considered public information making it possible to find my home adress by using my full name and knowing about where in the country I live. As such I want to hide my full name when doing activity sharing with people I met online since I'm otherwise basically giving out my home address.

I haven't found a way to do this. Full name is always shared. Anyone know of a way? Can't edit my name attached to the Apple ID because I need to have the correct name there in case of account recovery or such.

I’ve never really looked into this but as far as I know you share your activity with a contact, so the name displayed is the same name your ‘friend’ has saved in their contacts or certainly that’s how mine appear. If i edit the name in my contacts then the name changes in the activity sharing.

In other words if you tell someone your name is Donald Duck and they save you as a contact that’s the name they will see.

Thats assuming you use a phone number and not your full name Apple ID.

I added an online friend about a year ago and he saw my full name even though I had never given my last name to him, so he couldn't have had it added as a contact.

Now when I experimented with deleting his contact card I only saw his email address. I'm not sure if anything has changed or what's going on, but if there is a matching contact it uses that name, otherwise I'm not sure. It did show my full name that one time, but I don't know for sure how it works now.

Edit: Come to think of it, I may be mistaken. It may have been when I shared a photo album on iCloud that my full name was shared.
