Why is it that the iphone can't track activity without the watch? There has been a few times that my watch has died and i've had my phone in my pocket and feel like it should at least be able to track the activity (rings), maybe not as accurate but still?

is there a setting that i can turn on to use phone as backup?

Phone tracks your steps…
How would the phone track calories burnt? AW uses your heart rate…
How would the phone track your stand? AW also requires you to move for like 30sec or so for stand rings …

phone just doesn’t have those sensors

right, i know it couldn't track everything but i would think it could sense if its in your pocket if you are standing or not.

Well, assuming the stand ring is based on the gyroscope in the AW, the iPhone has a gyroscope too… but I’m guessing there is more involved, certainly SW wise…
