I like the Activity app, but coming from Garmin watch, I'm missing a few bits. Thought I share, as someone from Apple might see it and implement.

  1. Predicted finish time for distances. Very useful for racing. You could set up what distance you're running (5k, 10k, 21k, Marathon) and see predicted finishing time based on average pace.

  2. Current heart rate zone, when training/running.

  3. Best times. I'm surprised this is missing. It could show best efforts for running. 1k, 5k, 10k etc., so you can see how you're progressing. Achievements don't work for me at all.
Simple things, but would do the Activity app so much more useful.

I've created a mockup, so you can see what I've got in mind. Regarding nr 2.

That's the run stats on your iPhone.

Point nr 1 would be on the watch, nr 3 on the iPhone.

I like what you're thinking, but I have a few thoughts.

1. Apple will never do this on the iPhone. Just too much information to scroll through. I think it would be more likely for them to add Activity to the iCloud.com website. From there, you would be able to view and analyze your workout data to a much more detailed window.

2. I know it's a mock up, but your HR zone times do not add up to 38:47. The percentages are off too.

3. In the meantime, is there a reason that you aren't still using Garmin Connect? I don't have any Garmin product, but I am able to upload my data to Garmin connect and visualize the information on the web and the app.

You might have understood me wrong here. It's just one more detail in the workout app. See another mockup below. That's the predicted finishing time for 10k, based on average pace. Right now I'm calculating that in my head. That could be implemented easily, as right now you can choose the run distance - that's it, no more settings. All the calculations would be done in the background.

BTW. I'm not calculating the values in the mockups. It's just to show you the layout and idea.

I've used it, very useful. Right now I'm using the Activity / Workout app and export my data to Endomondo and Strava with RunGap. Works nice and not to much hassle.

But I want the, as I think, important data in Activity app, so I don't have to check elsewhere.

Take a look at Workoutdoors app, particularly the customizability of the planned beta version. I'm using that for daily power walks. The developer is very responsive and fun to interact with. I think this may have all and possibly more than what you're looking for. He's active under @cfc on the forum.

Thanks for the link, I'll check it out. But I want the, as I think, important data in Activity app, so I don't have to check elsewhere. Right now I'm using the Activity / Workout app and export my data to Endomondo and Strava with RunGap. Works nice and not to much hassle.

I understand what you're asking for. I just don't think Apple will ever implement it. Both of your mock ups are reasonable requests, however Apple's core beliefs are to minimize the interface to show the bare essentials.

If the do either, I think the extra data in the activity screen would be more likely. Right now the activity app doesn't populate much data generated from 3rd party apps. But future iOS updates may allow 3rd party apps to populate more data in the Activity workout screens. They've already started by allowing GPS maps from 3rd party apps to populate.

And I was just busting your stones about the numbers not adding up.

I use a Garmin 520 bike computer for most of my rides but sometimes I go for short distance rides and don't bother to use the computer and use the default Workout app instead. I have an app installed called HealthFit that automatically syncs my activity to Strava when I do that. It works really well. I don't have to manually sync anything.

That being said, I like your thinking. I wish that there were additional metrics to either choose from, or look at, once your workout is complete. Heart zones would be a great addition.
