Activty Monitor bugging and iMac running slow

Hi! I'm new to the forums so if it's anything wrong let me know.

1: My iMac 27" mid summer 2010 (most expensive version) have been running slow. I do not not why but I noticed that after I started useing time capsule it started. Any tips?

2: When I launch Activity Monitor it won't respond. The colorful wheel just keeps spinning and spinning when I move the mouse over the program. What to do? :)

Any help will be really appriciated :)
