actual disk space needed for leopard?

its says on the apple site it needs 9gb of disk space, my only mac being a ibook G4 disk space is a precious commodity. if i just do a upgrade, will leopard eat 9GB on top of tiger? and i think i can get away with just doing a upgrade cause my OS isn't that old, and i kept it fairly clean
