Actual price of iPhone 3G in the U.S. ?

Hi guys, just wondering what is the actual price, in your hands if you go in the store, buy an iPhone 3G (8GB or 16G) with the contract, then cancel the contract & pay the cancellation fees.

I'm looking to import one (Yes the pricing in New Zealand is absurd), and the ebay prices are so high due to demand.
