Adaptive charging under bootcamp

I am a long-time reader, first time poster. I just want to see if anyone knows any more low-level info on the adaptive charging technology. Specifically, is it active while running windows under bootcamp? Bonus question from a noob: is the entire smc on a level that runs separate from the mac os?

I am sure the adaptive charging is in firmware and is independent of the OS. It must be - works when your Mac is not booted, after all.

A second way of looking at it is, if the adaptive charging fails for any reason, at best your battery could become toast, at worst it could explode making your Mac (and you?) toast.
