Add a new contact number from text?

I received a text today from someone I would like to add to my contacts. Is there a way to add the new contact and phone number from the text screen?

Coming from an android, when a new number came in via text all I would have to do is press and hold down on the new number and I would be asked it I want to save the number as a new or existing contact. Very convenient!


With the iPhone I have to write the number down on a piece of paper then manually add the new number and contact. Is there a way to just add them from the screen without having to do this?

Open the text, swipe the keyboard down (if it's active) and you'll find the add contact button in the upper right.
