Add new Mac to Apple account without signing in on MacOS for AppleCare?

Is it possible to add my new Mac to an Apple account for AppleCare+ without singing in inside the OS of my new Mac?

I want to keep it local and not connect it with Apple services but do register said device to my Apple account so I can buy the Care+ plan.

On Mac in question, you can sign in with Apple Account, purchase AC+, then sign out of Apple Account. The AC+ is registered to the device serial number. Once registered, AC+ is active regardless of whether Apple Account is signed into.
