Add Old MacBook Ram To New iMac?

Can I Put My 2012 MacBook Pro 9,1 Stock Ram 8 GB (2 x 4GB) Into My New iMac 27" And Add That To It's Stock 8 GB (2 x 4GB)?

Then I would have 16 GB (4 x 4 GB) of stock ram in my iMac. 2 Dimms from the laptop and 2 more from the iMac. Would these be matching and recommended or could this perhaps cause problems?

2012 MacBook Pro 9,1 Core I6 2.6 15"
2014 iMac 3.5 27"
