Add Photos to Iphoto to separate events Possible?

Hey Guys, I need to know if this is possible. I have a folder on an ext HD and it has aprox 800 pics on it. I want to add the photos to iphoto and have them in separate events based on the date they were taken. I tried it a few different ways and it puts them in ONE event not dated events like when I import from my iphone.. Is there a easy way to import them into iphoto into separate dated events? Thanks in advance..

Are you sure you're using iPhotos and not Photos?

Are the images themselves dated? or just the folders?

It would be helpful if we knew the details of what you've done.

Using IPhoto , not photos.. I was trying to ADD photos from an ext drive that were in a folder! When I imported them into IPHOTO , it made ONE large EVENT. I wanted to have iPhoto make separate events by the dates of the photos! I just figured it out .. Thanks for your reply!
