Adding a second drive to an iMac - not a SSD?

I hear and see lots of threads about a second drive to the iMac and the second drive is always a SSD. Can I add a traditional magnetic media drive instead of a SSD in that second spot? I assume that these drives are 2.5" SATA laptop drives. Is that true?

Yeh you can add any 2.5" drive alongside the 3.5". You can even add two 2.5" drives if you remove the optical drive.

I want to maximize my internal storage before I have to go external. My PPC G5 only has an 80 GB drive and I have two external USB drives. External drives are fine except that they are another thing to plug in, find room for on a desk, be something that collects dust, and be something that can get knocked around (at least in my case).

Is the 2011 iMac limited to using 1 TB drives or could I use something bigger?

The iMac is not limited to 1 TB HDDs, it can take a 2 or 3 TB 3.5" HDD, but there are currently no 2.5" HDDs bigger than 1 TB.
