Adding alias to Finder Window?

How can I add the following aliases to a Finder Window?

1. alias to the desktop so I can easily save files to it without having to choose from the drop-down menu several steps

2. alias to a specific folder

The Finder SideBar doesn't work for you?
You can put an Alias to pretty much anything except Applications in there simply by drag/drop.
