Adding an external HDD to Bootcamp

Hi I have a question about Windows XP under Bootcamp. The partition allocated to windows is formatted as NTFS and is the largest you can allocated, however it is almost full. I need more harddrive space and so was wondering if I added an external USB harddrive and formatted it as NTFS whether windows could access it. Secondly, if this worked plugged into the computer would it also be found if I plugged it into time capsule?
