what is the process to add my brother who has a BYOD device to my mobile share. his device is unlocked but he is halfway acrosss the country. do I order a sim for him via att site? can he activate it from there without signing into my account?

You'd have to call AT&T and add a line which would be $15 extra per month on the mobile share plans with BYOD, and order a SIM card. You can probably do all of this online, though.
 
They'll tell you they have to mail you the sim (unless you go in store). You can also add him as an authorized used (if you're cool with that) and he would be able to just go in and pick up a sim. You can add/remove authorized users at any time too, FYI.

Just to clarify. It's 15 per line if you have a 10gb or higher MVP.
