So they went over this again today and apparently we will add our credit cards to itunes and they will show up in Passbook to available for use.

Is the setup of this part of itunes 12?

I'm pretty sure its when :apple:Pay launches. It will be an update presumably.

The :apple: Pay section of their site says you take a picture with your iPhones camera or manually add the card info. But as bbfc said, you'll probably have to wait until the service is switched on next month.

Looks like it's an iPhone 6 only feature.

I think the 5s will allow it when paired with the Apple Watch.

Ah apple site shows that it launches in October. They did say that it will work with the iPhone 6, 5s and 5 during that keynote. The phones without nfc could just have there screen scanned like current passbook apps

The page about it seems to imply that with iPhone 5, 5c, and 5s it would work when paired with an Apple Watch, not on its own like it could with iPhone 6 or 6 Plus.

It should work on its own for in app things like Groupon. Just not at physical locations.

I never heard them say it will support the 5/5S. I doubt it will work, and as for scanning the screen, thats not how it works. Sure some passbook apps, like Starbucks, operate this way, but its not contactless per se (or wave pay), it's different and required a Starbucks Card.

The 'in store payment' will not work with anything other than a 6/6+, due to NFC being required. As for within the apps, like Groupon, it wouldn't surprise me if it also required a 6/6+ due to it's new 'Secure Element'.

Apple's site about it seems to imply that it can work with 5/5c/5s if used along with the Apple Watch.

Yes, presumably because the :apple:WATCH has NFC, but it won't work on the 5/5S with out the Watch.
