I have a bunch of movies, in mp4 and mv4 format. Originally all played great in iTunes and Quicktime (Alum iMac 20" 2.4 Ghz, 2GB). However, I've run into an issue when trying to add cover art to the movies in itunes (by selecting get info and pasting cover art). Most files work fine. A few however, cause iTunes to become non-responsive as soon as I paste the art and click ok. In these cases, when I force quit iTunes and then try to play the movie file, I get an error message regarding an "invalid public movie atom."

I can add album art using a retagging app like MetaX -- but it takes almost an hour to process the file.

I've googled the hell out of this. Most hits tell me I need a codec, but I know that's not the problem as the files played fine before I tried to add the cover art in iTunes. Also, I've been able to replicate the problem with the same files over and over again -- make copy >> add to iTunes >> movies play fine >> add the art = invalid public movie atom. As I said, some movies result in the problem, others do not.

Some suggest trying to retag the file using Atomic Parsley or the like. But this does not work either -- the retagging app will not accept the files. I've tried Parsley is Atomically Delicious and MetaX and I even tried using a PC program called "tagger". None worked on the problem files (although they worked on the non-problem files).

I found this post, where someone had the same issue on a PC about a year ago: http://forums.ilounge.com/showthread.php?t=197275, but there's not much else out there.

Any ideas? This is driving me crazy.
