I want to be able to hook my MBP (purchases March '09) to my tv to watch shows through my laptop. I've read the posts and see what cables I need, but I realized I only have USB ports, no DVI ports! D'oh! Never had one put in when I bought it! (I AM blonde after all :D).

Can I add a DVI port to my existing MBP or could I hook up to my tv via USB?

Thanks for your help!

You can't add ports to your MBP.

You don't mention which model you bought, or if you bought it new, to narrow down the specs, but assuming you mean the 17" that was released in Feb. 2009 with the Mini DisplayPort,

all you need is a Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter.

 Sorry...I'm not sure what model it is. I bought it brand new from Apple, custom configuration.

I have to look when I'm at home, but I believe I only have USB ports or does this info help?

To find out what exact Mac you have, do the following. The last step can be ignored, just post the Model Identifier here.

This is the only 17" MBP with 2.4GHz, the Unibody released in 2009 had 2.66GHz. That model I linked to was released in 2007 and has a full size DVI port on the right side.

EDIT: Just saw the 15 in 15", thus here the correct links. Pre-Unibody 2.4GHz MBP, Unibody 2.4GHz MBP.

Correct. You didn't order the *adapters*. You have the port, just need to pickup the dongle. You'll be fine. BTW, you can also get an HDMI adapter if you prefer for hookup, though you won't have audio on the cable (only the 2010 MBPs support audio over HDMI).

The dongle being the Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter?

Yeah, maybe I need a tech savy friend to help me out. :p
