As the title says - did anyone try this? Is cabling already there or is there a need for one? In theory there should be an empty slot and SATA port available on rImac which was configured as PCI-E SSD only?

You will need to source the cable yourself. Doing this requires an almost 100% disassembly of the iMac. Not for the faint of heart. There are numerous places where you could damage your Mac if you aren't extremely careful. Why not just use an external drive?

I too would suggest using an external drive. If PCIe is a must, then perhaps a Thunderbolt 2 PCIe chassis.

I got TB SSD in THX deals for like 350 so I am thinking what to do with it. Ifixit guide for replacing HDD didn't seem complicated but if there is no cable one would need to pull out the mobo I guess... hmm...
