Adding Full Dates-iTunes

Hey, quick question. I noticed with the iOS4 update, when you look at albums they show the date of release. I noticed some had the full release dates so I went on iTunes to add the full dates in (day/month/year) but the only thing I could add was the year. Is there a way to do this, or is it simply just for purchased music for itunes? Thanks!
