I have a 2010 MacBook Pro with the high res screen and it has a fault in that it keeps shutting down randomly. I have replaced the RAM, hard drive and operating system but no joy!

Therefore I am in the market for a new laptop. I could go for a new rMBP but there is nothing screaming out for me. I am not bothered by the display, I love the high-res over the standard but really don't see the benefit to me in getting the retina.

I then started looking at the refurbished standard MacBook Pros and was wondering if I could get one with the standard resolution display and just add my high res display?

Thanks.
