Hi,

Basically I would like to add an extra external display to the iMac. I already have two plugged using the two thunderbolts. I'm not in a financial position to buy an Apple Thunderbolt Display, which would have meant I could daisy chain. Is there anyway to use USB to create a link up with another monitor. I do a lot of live video editing at events and this will be very useful!

Thanks in advance!

The iMac is limited to 2 external displays for a total of 3 displays.

Bear is correct, however have you considered a refurbished Thunderbolt display. You can save about $200.

Supposedly the 2013 MBA is limited to one external display but I have seen it support 2, via thunderbolt and usb.
So maybe the imac can support three, with one via usb. I think Plugable sell usb 3 to hdmi adapters, but I have heard that there has been compatibility issues with mavericks.
So it might be possible but I don't think you'll ever get a solid, reliable set up with three external monitors.
