I want to add a second optical drive to my '09 Mac Pro. Will any SATA DVD burner work? They have really inexpensive drives at Best Buy, etc. It would be nice if I could just pick one up and install it... I just don't know if there are any compatibility issues.

Thx

I've never come across one in my G4/MP that won't work!

I have a sony on in there atm.

Just have to remove the front bezel thingy for it to come out properly :)

Duff-Man says....uh...the new MacPro uses *SATA* optical drives - your old G4 does not....there's a difference.

OP - try searching as this has been asked a couple times already.....oh yeah!

My MP however *does*, as I said "G4/MP" and there is a Mac Pro in my sig too, probably work it out from there ;)

The issue is *not* what connection between the drive and the hardware it is if OS X has the drivers for it.

As I said. I have NOT come across a drive that OS X does NOT recognize and can be used in any app from any of the major manufacturers. Be it Sony, Samsung or Pioneer.

I just installed a Pioneer 216-BK.

I also re-flashed the firmware to make it quicker to rip DVDs and to make it multi region.
