Adding Subtitles to and mv4

So yeah.

I have The Da Vinci Code on dvd but its quicker for me to download it instead of Ripping the DVD (for my Apple TV)

Thing is the download didn't have any subs which made watching the film a bit useless. How would I go about getting the subs? Can I rip them off the DVD and if so how do I add them to the m4v?
