I am currently using a 4th generation Airport Extreme. A friend is giving me his old Airport Time Capsule (3rd Gen). How easy/difficult would it be to:

1 - Just plug the Time Capsule to the Airport Extreme (via cable) and simply use it as a Time Machine backup.
2 - Or instead, put the Time Capsule into another room and use it both as an network extender AND Time Machine Backup.

Thank you!

1. You can use the Time Capsule easily as a NAS device. Simply disable Wi-Fi, set it to Bridge Mode, and configure the "Disks" preferences.

2. If you already have acceptable performance and range, adding the Time Capsule may actually introduce more problems if used as a Wi-Fi extender.
