Adding to Menu Bar

I was browsing the February Desktop pic thread and I noticed that some people have a lot of icons in their menu bar.

Where can I get more or where do I look at what is available?

I saw somewhere that I could look in my library folder and I added the eject icon just to try it out.

I would like to have the date there as well.

a lot of menubar icons are for things found within System Prefs. for instance, the Time Machine System Preferences pane boasts a menubar icon (in 10.5.2). iChat and Adium both have options for menubar icons, as does CoverSutra. check the preferences for your apps to see if such an option is available.
