Address book backup import

I'm having trouble importing my address book file. I exported an ABBU file and when I try to import it, I can see the list briefly in the mac address book, but then they disappear and only two are left (my name and the apple address).

I bet you have iCloud sync turned on?

I went through this a few years ago and here is how I solved it. Go to System Prefs and in Users & Groups make a new/temp account. Put the ABBU file in the shared folder then boot to the new account and import that ABBU file to contacts. Now in Contacts do a command-a to select all the go to Export then Export to VCARD and export all the contacts as a VCARD file. Move that VCARD file to the shard folder. Now logout and go back to your main account and import the VCARD file in Contacts. That should do it.

I thinks what happens is the ABBU file tries to replace the whole contacts database where the VCARD import leaves the database there and just imports.

Once you get it all fixed you can delete the temp account.
