Address book causes spinning beach ball

Whenever I add a contact list from Apple Mail I get the spinning beach ball and cannot do anything while this is going on and this can last up to 1 minute

Apple PowerMac 1,1 2x2.66, 7gb ram using OS 10.6.6 1TB hard drive with 750gb free

My address book does contain 2500 entries. Can that be the problem? No other program hangs up my Mac like this

Download the easy to use free application SpeeMail. Just make sure you have Mail quitted. This will reindex you mailboxes kind of like "Archive" in Windows. Just let the index run for a while before you use mail again.

One warning: This will erase email's sitting in the Inbox but not the 'Saved on My Mac' boxes. Those boxes will be archived.
