I have my contacts on address book, mobile me and my iPhone. The address book got unwieldy with multiple duplicates and contacts I no longer need. So I went through the OS X address book carefully, then replaced the data on mobileme and the iPhone with the updated address book

The contacts are only sorted alphabetically for companies in OS X, completely random for people. This is crazy
The contacts are sorted alphabetically for companies in the iPhone, followed by a 'hash' category (the symbol after 'z') that then lists the people alphabetically. This is a pain because it means I have to scroll a lot to get to the right person

Only mobileme does things properly - sorting companies and people alphabetically together

Are there any settings in OS X/ the iPhone that I'm missing that could fix this?
