I use a Mac at home and Windows XP at work. I need to sync my home address book contacts with my work outlook contacts. I used to use plaxo for this until my employer, a Fortune-500 company, decided to block plaxo as they had turned into a social networking site (thanks, Plaxo!)
Now the only way that I could think of was good, old export from address book into outlook. There are a number of utilities available for this such as A to G and the excellent vCard to csv converter at http://labs.brotherli.ch/vcfconvert/
However, all these converters seem to have problems: (a) I have multiple work contacts for some of my clients (and I have not labelled these work and work 2) and (b) for some contacts in Address book, I have manually changed home contact to work contact by clicking on the greyed out home tag in address book and selecting work instead. I thought that it would be that easy.
Now I find that some phone numbers which show up as work in address book are converted to home by the csv converters. I downloaded the Bento database to try and do this differently and I find that Bento has the same issue. Also, if Address Book allows me to create two work numbers, why does Bento only display one.
This may be a little confusing to understand, but I am happy to clarify if there is anyone out there who understands the database structure of address book and can help me understand how to play with it. As I said, I use a dbase app such a Bento, but the problem seems to be with the dbase structure rather than the csv converters.
If someone has a better idea about how to sync my home address book to my work outlook contacts, I would love to hear it!
