Address book hanging up. Have to force close

I've got a 2009 mba which has been updated to lion X. The address book worked fine until I trie to make groups. On the second group I did the little disc kept spinning. I did all the normal things like shutting address book then restarted the computer. That didn't work so I checked preferenes and tried a free things. It won't let me delete that group. I tried letting that group spin for about an hour and it still kept spinning. I cleanup files on the computer etc. I did a search on the Internet to no avail. anyone have any ideas?
