hi, i did a clean up of my contacts and removed old email addresses that people no longer use.

and when i go to send an email to specific people that i just cleaned, it still shows their old email address when i type in their name in the email address field. is that normal or should all the old email addresses be removed?

Mail keeps it's own cache of mail addresses so yes, that's normal. You should be able to remove them as per this hint.
