For quite some time I've been trying to find a proper app to use icq & msn in one app. I hate the UI on Fire and haven't really found anything better, until I saw Adium (0.57) on macupdate.com. I love this thing! I get all the translucensy I want so it won't be a big window in the corner of my screen. I want my messaging apps to be as small and unnoticeable (is that a word??) as possible.

Well adium does that. It's also very stable (at least on my setup). The only thing it's lacking is file transfer, but I very seldom need it and with all the ****ty icq clients out there the file transfer probably wouldn't work anyway.

Give the app a shot if you're not pleased with your current chat app!

I have to agree, I "switched" to Adium a few weeks ago, and haven't used iChat since, it's sh*t! The way you can customize the look and feel of Adium to fit your desktop is worth a lot. They are also updating in constantly, good stuff!

I switched to Adium too. I've been using iChat since it came out, but since I rarely use the voice chat and never video chat, it was definitely worth it to switch. Adium has such an awesome interface. And you can actually create your profile. I just hope they soon add the ability to change your icon.

It gets your icon from your address book entry, just go and set an icon for yourself in your address book and this will be reflected in adium

In the advanced preferences, under address book, I unselected the "Use Address Book images as contacts' icons." Do you know what this means exactly? It still shows the same icon from my address book, rather than the one that should be on the server. (I changed my icon from AIM)

if this had file transfers that worked it would be perfect. i can't send or receive over ichat or msn almost 100% of the time anyway so it does upset me so much that it is lacking.

I can't quite get used to this... I know it's a great program, but there are little niggling things that I can't quite get to go - I'm used to MSN Messenger:Mac, it's not great but it's quite simple, this is quite a good program but i can't just simple resize the contact window etc. I'll get used to it eventually I guess...!!

It seems like file transfers are at least in development. I'll get a message saying someone is trying to send a file to me, but then it will just crash. If you do control-click, it will bring up a menu where it says "send file." But that's in early stages too.

'use address book images' would automatically load the images of your contacts from the address book card (provided you have them, and you have set the AIM field in addressbook in each card), into your adium message window. Its a pretty neat function.

issues with g5 (adium 0.61)

weird. after making a clean install of 10.3.4 and all my apps on my new g5 adium's been pretty unstable. the first time i launch it it crashes, but on the 2nd and third try it usually works ok. it also seems to crash the system (kernel panic) every now and then..

I wish they update the app soon and that the update would fix this problem since i'm not going back to anything else very easily.

sourceforge usually has a series of older builds that you can download. perhaps its just this build thats buggy.
