Adium File Transfer Question

With the previous version of Adium, dropping a file (ie a picture) onto the chat window would initiate a file transfer. As of version 1.0, it attempts to initiate a Direct Connection when using AIM, and it usually/always fails. Is there any way to force it to use a file transfer when doing this instead?
