So I've got adium here and its a little hard switching from aim on a pc to adium on a mac. Most of the interface is the same and all but in my buddy list it shows the people's nicknames which were in my aim account in case I forgot who was im'ing me. Anyways I have unchecked the "Use Nickname If Available" option under advanced settings and it still manages to show up. Any ideas? Is there something else that I might still have checked? Thanks

If you imported your buddy list from AIM, it most likely means that Adium put the nickname into it's name field. Here's instructions for how to remedy it:

Setting a Contact's Name (Alias)
In some situations you may want to change how Adium displays a contact's name in your Contact List. To do this you will need to create an alias for that contact.

Ctrl-Click the desired contact in the Contact List.
Select Get Info from the Contact menu.
Fill in the Alias field under the Settings tab.

There isn't an alias in there, nothing is filled in and yet the persons name rather then their sn shows up
