Roughly two years ago, I had acquired a higher-end fifteen inch (15") iMac G4 machine from a local seller in the area and I swapped some components out, replaced the thermal paste, and in general gave it a tuning-up.

I believe the machine was picked up by the "arm" (the hinge mechanism) more times than it should've been, and as a result, the hinge is loose. It wobbles around. There's nothing wrong with the arm of the machine, but the part where the hinge connects to the base of the lower portion is loosened.

I want to go back inside this computer and do more upgrades, and I figured I'd take care of this problem while I'm at it. How can this be adjusted? I presume it can be done with removal of the disc drive and the hard disk. On the other hand, I've never done this before, and I don't know if anyone else has. Is this possible? What's the best way to go about it?

In addition to the HDD and ODD, the system fan will need to be removed, and possibly even the power supply (my memory is fuzzy).

I believe the hinge base is held to the housing by several screws. You might want to gut it out and take a look at those.

This directory may be of some use...
