So I have been having issues with my administrator account on my 2013 iMac running Mavericks. A few times recently I have tried to do some administrator tasks and found I was not able to. I am logged into my admin account, but the lock on the settings menu will not unlock. Anything that requires an admin password will not allow me to do anything.

The problem resolves itself when I restart the computer. I have tried to repair permissions but that has not done anything.

Another issue I am having is with long processes. I tried to secure erase the free space (about 1.5 TB of free space) and the process froze sometime within the first 18 hours. This also happened when I ran a systems check with TechTool Pro 7, it ran for several hours then froze the entire computer.

I have a maxed out iMac with 32Gb of RAM and all updates. Please help.
