I wanted to change the name of my printer. As I am always logged in using a non-administrator account I was asked for administrator credentials. I am surprised by this because the text-box fields were not greyed out (example: at the network setting they are greyed out). However I found the following even more curious: my entered admin credentials are remembered. After changing the name or the location of the printer I could change it over and over again without being asked for admin credentials.

Can other people confirm this and give their opinion on this.

Printers can be installed/managed by standard users too, unless a printer is shared. If this printer was set up by you, as a standard user, then you likely did not need the administrator access. Standard users also need administrator access to share a printer over the network.

Did you click on the lock or were you prompted for a password?

No I did not click on the lock. I was just prompted for a password.
