I just had to wipe my hard drive and it was reinstalled from the CD. Everything was backed up with time machine. I started to restore on my time machine, but it's asking for the administrator user id and password. Note I REMEMBER my password, just not my user id. I need this to restore my previous hard drive. Any suggestions?

If you didn't set it to something custom, then it's your full name (however you would have typed it in), without spaces and lower case (that's the short name version, which will work there). You can also plug that Time Machine drive into another computer, view the contents, and browse to any of your backups, find your home folder, and the name of that folder will be your short name.
