Adobe Connect audio issues in iMovie

Adobe Connect mp4 files play fine on my Mojave 10.14.6, but when imported to iMovie on same laptop, significant audio passages are missing in part and at times, all together.

A friend suggested reduced 'scratch space' might be the reason?
