Adobe today unveiled new versions of Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements, the company's affordable photo and video editing software aimed at users who want to enhance their photos and videos with simple editing tools.

Photoshop Elements 2025 incorporates multiple new AI-powered tools to make editing quicker than ever. There's a new Remove tool that lets users select an area in the image to remove with a brush, plus it is accompanied by an Object Removal Guided Edit.

There's also an option to change the color of objects in an image by selecting them with the automatic selection tools and then choosing a new color.

A new Depth Blur filter adds blur to images to mimic a depth of field effect, with controls for adjusting blur strength, focal distance, and focal range. It's a useful way to change the focus of an image.

There is a Combine Photos Guided Edit that walks users through blending the subject from one image and the background from another to create an all-new image. It can use parts of multiple photos for unique looks.

Other new features include options for textured photo backgrounds and graphics and a one-click option for adding effects like camera motion, animated sparkles, or an animated frame.

Premiere Elements 2025 has several new features for videos. There's a new White Balance tool for adjusting the look of clouds, snow, and similar white elements, plus there are new color correction Curves for making more precise color and brightness adjustments.

There are additional templates for dynamic titles with more control over text alignment, size, color, and spacing. There are preset LUTs for tweaking color, and a simplified Timeline speeds up editing.

For both Photoshop and Premiere Elements, there are enhancements for Macs with the new M3 chip, so the software will run faster on new M3 machines.

Photoshop and Premiere Elements are priced at $100 each individually, with a bundle available for $150. More information is available on Adobe's website.

Wow, Photoshop's (and Elements') clone cursor is an absolutely killer differentiator (IMO) - nothing else comes anywhere close. But with a license that ends after 3 years, well that's a real deal killer. I own 2020 Elements/Premiere on two machines (one license, still works on both) and 2023 on another (separate license, still works of course). This new model totally breaks the traditional perpetual license model. Can some competitor please "clone" their wonderful clone cursor, please?????

I've used Elements for a couple of decades. But this upgrade has me stymied. Gonna have to relearn how to do literally everything from scratch.

Was waiting for a digital Monday sale this fall, but wait what? Crippleware after 3 years?
Looks like I’ll be keeping my Intel unit behind the scenes for a long time. o_O

They also made a change to their “perpetual” license. “Perpetual” = 3 years, now.
That information really should have been in the article, MacRumors.

Adobe FAQ claims this is not a subscription, just because there is no auto-renewal at the end of the term. But the license is termed and so this really is a subscription, only you are not locked in to an auto-renewal but can opt to discard the software or buy it again after 3 years.

The license is for a full 3-year term, with no monthly or annual recurring subscription fees required. The license is non-renewing — it expires 3 years after redemption at which time the Editor will no longer be accessible, but the Organizer will continue to be accessible indefinitely.

All I care is, is it easier to uninstall? Or is it still installing files in basically every single system folder?

Call me a minimalist, but I appreciate apps with a single .app file, and photoshop has always been the opposite of that
Exactly spot on, I have said that since what….forever, it’s more like a virus spreading.
I can’t stand behind people still using adobe, such an evil company.

Apple shouldn’t give adobe any privileges to install anywhere else than in an .app folder.

Trial version seems to be an Intel app on my M3 iMac. Rosetta 2 dialogue keeps showing during app launch. System information confirms that with Intel next to the app in Applications list.

So after using it for a bit, some thoughts on Elements 2025.
Even though it was a 20 generation jump over the version I use in Snow Leopard, most of the essential features work the same and are easy to find.

Missing and missed is the 'Color Variations' feature. This provided an easy way to deal with crossover. In the new variation you may be able to solve crossover playing with HSL, but more likely you will need to select the deep shadows and do a levels change on only that portion of the photo.

Still no multi channel curves which would give on an alternative approach to crossover.

A couple of irritants. Somehow going from 32-4 core to 64-gads of cores Adobe managed to introduce a slight lag when making adjustments in Levels and HSL. This can really slow things down when you have to wait a couple of seconds to determine where an adjustment landed. Typically I will go down and up through Levels channels making as many as half a dozen changes on any one channel. So a 15 second tweak can now take a couple of minutes.

Another irritant is the tool control bar. It takes up valuable real-estate at the bottom of the display and will more than double in height without either reason or request. The crop tool will often arbitrarily try to pick a crop, usually neither an aspect ratio or area I am interested in. I am guessing this is some sort of Anti-Intelligence feature.

Now this is installed on our second computer, it's used mainly for internet and email browsing. It's there so my wife has a reasonably familiar photo editor without moving over to our older computer. I had Elements set-up in my profile and her profile. I then needed to use it in a test profile so I could do some comparisons. Adobe killed Elements in both of the other profiles. Did not tell me it was doing that nor did it offer me a choice of removing Elements from just one profile. Literally only one of us can use it at a time, but Adobe chose to limit its use to only 2 profiles on the same computer.
