Adobe InDesign/Illustrator Fonts - ?

Can anyone explain to me why the fonts that show up in Adobe InDesign and Illustrator don't show up in any other of my Mac OS apps? Can they be installed for use system-wide?

i certainly don't know how you would go about doing such a thing, but if i had to make a purely hypothetical guess as to where the fonts were located, it would be /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Fonts/Reqrd/Base

and i suppose that, purely for speculation sake, if someone was to drag them into the /Library/Fonts or ~/Library/Fonts folder they would work in all apps. but you didn't hear this from me
