Hopefully this does not sound sour grapes.

I'm looking at buying CS4, my 2nd year daughter allows me to buy for $299, sounds like good deal.

Then I see the "Higher Ed" pricing is $199, $100 less. :( for me, :) for college students.

Any good rationale why charging $100 more for little kids?? Different pricing structure for other apps as well. PSE8 is same price, $69.

Sure, they probably figure parents of K-6 are using CS4, but 7-12 those "into" digital manipulation surly will use CS4's ability.

my soapbox for the day.

Probably because k-12 demand is much lower than higher education. That and becasue Adobe can. Not too much demand for k-12 to get Photoshop unless its the teacher buying it.
