But don't get too excited folks it's still PPC only

Shockwave Player has not yet been ported to run natively on the new Intel-based Macintosh computers and currently only runs in Rosetta emulation mode. To install and use Shockwave Player on an Intel-based Macintosh, you will need to run the browser in Rosetta emulation mode. Follow the instructions below to launch your browser in Rosetta emulation mode.

Yep Adobe really has their finger on the financial post on this one. I'm sure when CS3 is ready so will the free Flashplayer be as well.

This is just weird to me. Intel Macs are shipping with an Intel build of Flash Player that Adobe provided to Apple. It's fine to say it's beta and all, but at least for me it works perfectly. Seeing how they came up with that so quickly, is it really that difficult to release an Intel version of Flash Player 9? Even if they release it and call it a beta, that would be fine.

Further, their stated intent was to release FlashPlayer 8.5 as a universal binary...

Q. Does Adobe plan to release a final, fully tested Universal version of Flash Player 8 to update the preview version?
A. No, we will not release a ship-quality Universal version of Flash Player 8. Instead, we are focusing on fully supporting the new Intel-based Macs with a Universal version of Flash Player 8.5. Adobe has a corporate policy of not commenting on future ship dates; however, the Universal version of Flash Player 8.5 for Intel-based Macs will ship after the initial Windows and PowerPC-based Mac versions of the plug-in.

Quote from Emmy Huang of Adobe:

Q. When will I be able to install Flash Player 9 on my Intel-based Mac?
A. We are working on getting a public beta version of a universal binary Flash Player 9 out this week (!!) for testing. It hasn't been fully optimized yet, but QA says the performance seems pretty good. No promises on the public beta live date, but it's a goal we're working towards.

So many if's, but's and maybe's in that statement I don't think I'd be too confident in the timing or the usefulness of yet another beta.

Didn't they already release a beta? Now they're releasing another?

They had an Intel version 8 beta and a PowerPC version 8.5 beta, which was renamed version 9. What I read suggested that the Intel version 9 should be available within a month or two.
